Practice moves indoors

Utah continued spring practice today despite the weather turning back to mid-winter form. The Utes moved to their indoor facility to escape the snow for drier accommodations.


Senior quarterback Brett Ratliff and junior upstart Tommy Grady continue to be neck and neck in the battle for the starting quarterback spot. Both Ratliff and Grady looked solid once again in practice today, as each showed their abilities to direct the Utah offense. Both quarterbacks spent considerable time today working on the option game in addition to the aerial attack.


The linebackers and running backs wasted little time in trying to show one another up. Both Mike Liti and Daryl Poston made several linebackers look bad in one on one tackling drills as they took turns both eluding and running over tacklers. However, backup linebacker Loma Olevao took his revenge as he drove running back George Molifua past the sidelines and through a chain link gate in the practice facility wall. The most vicious hit of the day came courtesy of safety Joe Giuliani, who laid a nasty hit on Sean Smith as he tried to cross over the middle. Smith was down for several minutes and was held out of the remainder of practice as a result of the blow.
