Kendrick Market a Natural Defender
Mississippi State came into the 2013 season already depleted in the secondary. The safety position was the one bright spot for the Bulldogs returning a wealth of experience in Nickoe Whitley and the quarterback of the defense in Jay Hughes. Things turned sour quickly, however, as Hughes went down with a torn Achilles in the first possession of the opening game of the season.
Dee Arrington stepped in for State and performed well but he suffered an injury of his own and in stepped sophomore Kendrick Market. Market hails from talent-fueled South Panola High School, a recruiting hot bed for MSU, Ole Miss and Alabama among others. He came out of Batesville a bit undersized for most teams, but MSU saw an athlete they couldn't pass on.
Market redshirted during his first season before sporadically seeing the field last year. This season, though, Market was thrust into action and became one of the Bulldogs' leading tacklers. He attributes it to a lot of what Hughes taught his the last two seasons and just plain natural instincts.
