NAMEDROPPER: Frazier continues to sharpen

AUBURN | Kiehl Frazier's surprising renaissance took another turn toward optimism Thursday when coach Gus Malzahn offered another glowing review of the junior's defensive progress.

He shifted from quarterback to safety last week.

"He's in the mix," Malzahn said. "I think everyday he feels more comfortable. It's like anything else, the more that you do, the better you get at it. He's a competitor, he's a smart football player, he understands offensive concepts and there's a good chance he'll be out on the field."

Frazier has been placed in the ultimate crash course during the past 10 days or so, first learning to basics at boundary safety and then earing a barrage of reps during each subsequent practice. It's clear that defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson sees promise in Frazier, who was recruited by some college programs as a safety.
