Samuel finally home in Starkville
August to January may not seem like a long time to many.
But those five months seemed to creep by for Artimas Samuel tucked away at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
Samuel signed with Mississippi State in 2012 but did not meet the academic requirements and enrolled at the prep school in order to qualify. But that semester turned out to be a life-changing experience.
"The military aspect of the school helped me tremendously with punctuality," Samuel said. "It also helped on the football field playing against elite players from all over the country. It was a great experience across the board. It was a headache sometimes putting up with the football and military side of things but it really teaches you a lot of responsibility. If you can make it at Hargrave, you can make it anywhere in life."
Last fall, Samuel hauled in eight passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns at Hargrave and was rated the No. 22 prep school prospect in the country. The Bulldogs stood behind their word to the three-star prospect and signed him once again as he enrolled in classes at MSU in the spring.
"It feels good to finally be home," Samuel said. "I've been here for a semester now so I'm getting adjusted and grinding with the team. Now it's just up to me to get to where I can potentially be if I strive hard enough."
