Porter pulls Bulldogs through
Omaha, NE., - Trey Porter's pinch hit bit for a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning fell a few feet shy and was caught on the warning track.
The Mississippi State senior however ended up being the hero after all.
With the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Porter smacked a two-run single to right-center which proved to be the difference in a 5-4 victory in game eight of the College World Series.
"I guess being a kid from a small hometown, which is kind of the story with most of the guys out here," Porter said. "You set out to play at the top level and being in the College World Series one day but you never see it happening because so many players out there have so much talent. But it's just a great feeling."
The Bulldogs now position themselves in one of the driver's seats in Omaha getting a three-day break and sit one win away from the championship series and three victories shy of a national title.
"A lot of little things went into that ballgame," said MSU skipper John Cohen. "But we just kind of held in there tough and found a way to win the game."
