Oregon State preview

Today Mississippi State returns to the College World Series for the first time since 2007.

The Bulldogs will be making their ninth appearance in Omaha, Neb., and will meet Oregon State at 2 p.m. from T.D. Ameritrade Park.

MSU is 7-16 all-time in the College World Series with their last win there coming in 1998. The Diamond Dogs have lost four straight games in Omaha. They were eliminated in two games during their last visit losing 8-5 to North Carolina and also 12-4 to Louisville.

Mississippi State has never met the Beavers on the diamond.

The Bulldogs advanced to Omaha by going 3-1 in the Starkville Regional and sweeping Virginia in two games in the Charlottesville Super Regional. MSU claimed 11-6 and 6-5 victories over the Cavaliers during that series.

It will be the first trip back to Omaha for skipper John Cohen since 1990 when he was an outfielder for the Diamond Dogs. Cohen went 4-for-12 with a double and four runs batted in the old Rosenblatt Stadium. He becomes the fourth Mississippi State head coach to take a team to the College World Series.

The Diamond Dogs come to Omaha with a 48-18 overall record having gone 8-2 in the postseason this year.
