Mississippi State is hoping the third time is the charm.
The 16th ranked Bulldogs have dropped their opening two Southeastern Conference series and will attempt to win their third on the road at No. 11 Arkansas.
The three-game series gets underway tonight at 6:35 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. The finale on Sunday will start at 1:05 p.m.
MSU lost their SEC opening series at home to LSU and dropped their first road trip of the year to Kentucky last weekend. The Diamond Dogs are 2-4 in conference play and 22-6 overall.
State holds a slight edge in the series against Arkansas 45-37. The Bulldogs won the first 10 games of the series and are 15-15 in games played in Fayetteville.
The two SEC West rivals split their four matchups in 2012. After dropping the opener 11-2, the Razorbacks battled back with an 8-0 shutout on Saturday and took the Sunday rubber game 8-5 in 11 innings to take the series at Dudy Noble Field. Mississippi State went on to a 9-1 victory in the opening game of the SEC Tournament.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 13-5 midweek win over Austin Peay in Starkville on Tuesday. MSU collected 11 hits and reached base 12 more times via walks and being hit by pitch. Junior second baseman Brett Pirtle led the charge reaching base four times and going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
