Austin Peay preview

No. 16 Mississippi State attempts to keep its midweek winning streak intact tonight hosting Austin Peay at 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are undefeated at 6-0 in midweek games this season and are 21-6 overall on the year.

MSU sports a 19-2 non-conference record this spring and have met the Governors four previous times on the diamond through the years with three of those games being decided by two runs or less. The two teams have split those contests with the Diamond Dogs winning the first and only meeting in Starkville 4-3 in 2005.

State also won the last outing in the 2011 NCAA Atlanta Regional 8-3. Evan Mitchell tossed eight innings on the mound with eight strikeouts to pick up the win for the Bulldogs. Mississippi State collected 10 hits in that game paced by C.T. Bradford going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

The Diamond Dogs are coming off a series loss at Kentucky over the weekend in their first road games of the year. After winning Friday's opener 8-4, MSU dropped a pair of one-run affairs (3-2, 4-3) in a doubleheader on Saturday to lose the series. Junior right fielder Hunter Renfroe homered in each of the games against the Wildcats.
