Alcorn State preview

No. 14 Mississippi State hopes to keep its midweek winning streak alive tonight taking on instate opponent Alcorn State at 6:30 p.m.

The Diamond Dogs have won all five midweek games this season and are 19-4 overall. It will be MSU's final test before going on the road for the first time this season.

The Diamond Dogs claimed last year's meeting 6-2, the lowest margin of victory in the series which dates back to 1993. Second baseman Sam Frost paced MSU's seven hit attack going 2-for-4 with and double and an RBI. Will Cox picked up the win on the mound tossing three perfect innings with six strikeouts.

The Bulldogs are coming off a Southeastern Conference opening series loss at home to LSU over the weekend. The Tigers rallied back with a 6-4 10-inning win on Friday and clinched the series with a 7-3 win on Saturday. Mississippi State salvaged the Sunday game with a 10-2 victory. The Bulldogs had 12 hits led by second baseman Brett Pirtle going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI in the finale.
