Fall infield preview

There were plenty of question marks involving Mississippi State's infield heading into last spring.

The Bulldogs had youth at every position but after a year of seasoning every infielder is back in action this fall and looking to build on their SEC Tournament Championship and NCAA Regional run.

At first base a lighter Wes Rea returns after starting all but one game as a freshman. Rea has shed 22-pounds since the spring and a cyst removed from his shoulder that caused him discomfort the entire year.

Rea batted .249 last season and led the team with 41 runs batted in. He also finished tied leading the squad with five home runs and 16 doubles.

I think anytime you can put USA on your chest is a wonderful opportunity. I think he needed a little rest. I think he had some shoulder soreness going into the summer that he's been able to solve. His knowledge, leadership and the fact he finished third in the league in hitting and second in on-base percentage and got the third most hits in a single season in school history is obviously a big part of what we are going to try to do."
