Gressel bounces back
Brant Gressel saw his senior season get off to a slow start with Centerville losing their first two games, but the future Hawkeye has bounced back and led his team to five consecutive wins. We caught up with the 6-foot-2, 280-pound Gressel to talk about the turnaround, what made the biggest difference, what he has heard from the Iowa coaching staff since committing, and much more.
Q: Can you talk about your season so far? After starting off 0-2, you guys have really turned things around.
GRESSEL: Yeah, we have. We started off 0-2 and to be honest lost to a team that we really shouldn't have lost to, but I think after that second loss, the senior class kind of came together and made a decision that we were not going to be the class that lost more than two games. Last year, we started off 1-4 and that was not a good feeling at all, so we came together and just said it stops here. We've won five straight since then, so obviously we're doing something right. I think the defense has had some good games and the offense has had some good games, so once we both start clicking and have good games at the same time we're going to keep rolling.
In April, Gressel committed to Iowa over scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, NC State, Minnesota, Louisville, Bowling Green, Kent State, Ohio, Miami of Ohio, Toledo, and Western Kentucky.
