Burbridge, Fowler shine in big day for Spartan WR's

BLOOMINGTON - With star tight end Dion Sims sidelined by injury, Michigan State needed to get production from its receivers in the passing game.

Spartan receivers delivered their best performance of the season.

True freshman Aaron Burbridge was the workhorse of the group. The former Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison star finished the day with eight receptions and 134 receiving yards.

"Aaron really stepped up like we were expecting to," said junior quarterback Andrew Maxwell, who completed 24 of 40 pass attempts for 290 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. "I've told you guys what kind of player he is, with the ability to make a tough catch, the ability to run great routes and use his speed. He played great today and we expect big things."

Burbridge became the first freshman wide receiver to record a 100-yard receiving game since Terry Love in 2003. Maxwell believes Burbridge's loud performance is the first of many.
