Hot 11: Week 1 Wisconsin

A couple of weeks ago, put on a show with its inaugural Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, Georgia. On Sunday, moved to DeSoto for the first-ever Rivals Underclassmen Challenge, which included some of the nation's best 2014 and 2015 prospects.  Prospects from all over the country made the trip to Texas to compete against the best, and there were plenty of standouts. However, a couple of names at the top of this Hot 11 are ones with which Texas recruiting junkies should be very familiar.

PAC 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for his all out effort against the #13 Badgers, DJ showed why coaches have been so excited for him to hit the field. He endd the game with seven tackles, including two tackles for loss, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Welch was all over the field Saturday and assisted on several key plays.

He was able to showcase his speed and athleticism and was reactionary most of the game, anticipating where he was needed instead of over-thinking every play.

Injury, legal issues, senior defensive tackle Castro Masaniai has been through a lot. While Oregon State fans worried about the run stopping ability of the defensive front and whether Masaniai was healthy and could contribute at over 350 pounds, he went to work and came out looking to be in the best shape of his life.

Credit him and his teammates on the line for being a big force in shutting down Montee Ball and the Wisconsin run game. The Badgers are known to have a big, physical offensive line and Masaniai and the group shut them down.
