Greasin' The Rails: Taking stock of the first week

- There are times in any beat writer's life when things need to be written/published that don't fit into the usual format.
They're not full stories or videos. They're ideas, snippets, details, insights, theories, scuttlebutt. At, you'll find that kind of content on our Greasin' The Rails blog.
We're currently putting the final touches on that blog, but fall camp already is underway. We can't hold back any longer. So the temporary solution will be "regular" stories with a GTR prefix.
This is the first one.

Here are a few things that have crossed by mind during the past five days:

**I'm inclined to believe we won't be seeing anything from Eric Mack this season. I received confirmation Saturday night that the junior remains on the team, at least in an official capacity, so any assertions about him being gone already are errant.

Will he be gone? I'm not going there; I don't know.

I don't think anyone has that answer right now.

He's been through an extremely harrowing ordeal and the best thing in the coaches' eyes is to give Mack all the time and space he needs to once again find peace in his life.
