Johnson Says Mike Stoops Brought him to Norman

Ask many Sooner fans what they remember of watching Mike Stoops coach and they'll talk about the famous run in with Ontei Jones or any other 'heat of battle' type moments. However, the one thing that often goes overlooked with Stoops is that while he isn't soft, his players often discuss his ability to help them improve.

One player who is backing up that chatter is Stoops' former pupil, Arizona 2011 signee Cortez Johnson. After spending his true freshman year as a two-game starter for the Wildcats and multi-game participant Johnson saw the coaching staff he had signed with; Stoops, Tim Kish, and Arizona defensive backs coach Ryan Walters depart from Tucson.

After spending some time thinking this spring, Johnson elected to transfer in what many thought was a desire to get closer to home. It seems that while Norman being closer to his home in New Orleans is an advantage, it wasn't the deciding factor in electing to transfer to Oklahoma.
