Harrison One to Watch

With signing day drawing closer and closer we continue to look ahead to the class of 2013 and take a closer look at some of the Houston area prospects that have already appeared on the Cougars' radar. One such prospect is Pasadena (TX) Dobie linebacker Jordin Harrison.

Harrison was one of 500 juniors that made the trek over to San Antonio for the Army National Combine and CougarsDen caught up with the talented linebacker to get an idea of how the early recruiting process was going.

"I've been talking to Houston, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Oregon and Utah that's pretty much it so far," the 6-foot-1, 230-pound defender said.

Harrison has already been to his fair share of camps, camping at Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas. He could potentially add Houston to that list for the coming season and likes the fact that they're so close to home.

"I'm definitely interested in Houston," Harrison said. "It's a home town school and I would love to stay at home."

Harrison plays in a 4-3 defense in high school but feels he could translate well to any scheme at the next level even if that includes a new position.

"I'm open for pretty much anything," he said. "I'm a pretty quick learner; I play inside linebacker right now, but most likely in college I'll be playing defensive end."

As a junior Harrison tallied 54 tackles for Dobie and could rise to be one of the Houston area's top linebackers to watch for the class of 2013 and Houston could make a push for him.

"Last year one of the coaches came to my school," the talented junior said. "That's really the only time I've talked to anyone, but they've been sending me a lot of letters."

Harrison really enjoyed his time in San Antonio and was pleased with his showing.

"I feel like I did pretty well," Harrison added. "I actually knocked a millisecond off of my forty time and I feel like I did pretty good in my one-on-ones."

Last season the Longhorns finished with a 7-4 record, making the playoffs but losing a tough 5A Bi-district matchup to Galena Park (TX) North Shore.

Harrison and his Longhorns will look to get another berth in the playoffs, but next time they'd like to go a lot further than the first-round exit they saw in 2011.
