Conyers planning visit to Ole Miss
As Duke's offensive line coach, Matt Luke called Robert Conyers weekly.
The Miami (Braddock), Fla., offensive tackle called Luke frequently as well, and the two built a strong rapport.
So when Luke left Duke to join Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss, Conyers wondered when he would hear from Luke again.
The answer came one day later.
"I found out he had gone to Ole Miss and the next day he called and said I could play in that conference and he was still going to recruit me as hard as he could," Conyers said.
Conyers, a 6-foot-5, 277-pounder with approximately 20 offers, said he will visit Luke and Ole Miss on Jan. 27, one week after a planned official visit to Wake Forest. Conyers has already taken official visits to Duke and South Florida.
Conyers admitted he doesn't know much about Ole Miss at all, so the official visit figures to be critical for the Rebels' chances.
"I know it's a big-time school and there's a lot of new energy," Conyers said, adding that Ole Miss' Southeastern Conference affiliation will not be "that much of a selling point. I like it though."
Conyers said he is still "pretty open," adding he doesn't plan to make a decision until much closer to the start of the signing period on Feb. 1.
"I want to go somewhere where I'm liked and I'm needed," Conyers said, adding he'd like to redshirt his first season at the collegiate level. "I think I have good footwork and I'm aggressive and I understand what defenses are trying to do quickly. I'm just 17, and I still have a lot of growing to do."
