What a great night to take in a Beaver practice! The team took to Reser Stadium for the 2nd practice of the day and Mother Nature cooperated as it remained warm throughout the entirety of it. One got that feeling of football season finally being upon us, walking into Reser, seeing the players in orange and black down on the field competing underneath the lights.
Practice kicked off with a couple more position changes. BeaverBlitz was the first to report that Tyerequek Zimmerman and Naji Patrick had moved over from the offensive side of the ball to the defensive side. Zimmerman is now sporting a black #8 jersey and lining up at safety alongside former quarterback Peter Ashton. The freshman walk-on Patrick kept his #27 but is now a corner after starting off at running back.
Practice kicked-off, literally, with special teams work. The Beavers have quite the stable of kick returners with Jordan Poyer, Brandin Cooks, Markus Wheaton, Keynan Parker, Jovan Stevenson, Terron Ward and Malcolm Marable all taking turns back there. Special teams coach Bruce Read can't go wrong with any combination of Poyer, Cooks and Wheaton, as all are home runs waiting to happen. The big 3 also were the only ones who received reps returning punts. It will be interesting to see how James Rodgers factors into the return game once he is fully cleared.
