Tech offers Florida OLB
Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay outside linebacker Josh Witt attended a Tech camp in Coppell (Texas) over the weekend and has since picked up an offer from the Red Raiders.
"I thought that was big-time," Witt said. "I'm from Texas originally so I was definitely wanting an offer from the state, so I thought it was great. I'm really interested to see how this relationship works out now."
"They've been talking to me since track season and it was after a track meet that I had first heard that they were interested in me. I've been talking with one of their secondary coaches and we've got along really well so far."
Assistant coach Otis Mounds is the primary recruiter for the 6-foot-2, 208-pounder. Witt moved to Florida from Texas as a sophomore in high school, and he spent a good amount of time up to that point watching Tech football.
"Being from Texas I grew up watching them and all of the other schools, so I'd say I'm really familiar with their program," he said. "I've been watching their team for quite a while now and I'm just excited to have an offer from them."
Aside from Tech, Witt mentioned Kansas and West Virginia as the two programs recruiting him the hardest right now. He's yet to iron out his summer plans, but a trip to Lubbock now seems likely.
"I do plan on getting out to visit a couple of other schools here pretty soon, and I'm going to try and get out to Lubbock too. If I can't do it this summer I'll try and take a visit during the fall for sure."
Witt has hopes of bringing his recruitment to an end before his senior season, but so far no programs have separated themselves from the pack.
"I definitely would like to get it done before the end of the summer. I'd like to have it out of the way before my season starts," he said. "I haven't really narrowed much down yet, though. Right now I'm just kind of taking it day by day and seeing what happens."
In addition to the offer from Tech, Witt also holds offers from Central Michigan, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Minnesota, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Western Michigan.
