Star target ready for first visit to VT
It's going to be a busy weekend in Blacksburg with plenty of prospects coming in from far and wide. Virginia Tech has made a strong first impression on a rising 2012 prospect that holds an offer and is intending to be in town for the big weekend ahead.
"I really want to come and see Virginia Tech," McDonough (Ga.) Henry County quarterback Chris Moody said. "Christian Reeves is planning to take me up and I'm trying to make it happen where I'll come up this weekend for the spring game. I want to visit there because when I make my decision I want to have checked out all the places."
Rumors have swirled that Tech is rather high on Moody's list, is that fair?
"Yes sir," he said. "I like the body of work they have already, they are winning. For the last couple of years they've had great quarterbacks and are a winning team with great coaching, so I really want to check them out and give them a hard look."
Moody expects he'll know much more about Tech once the visit is done.
"After I take my visit, I'll have a lot more to say. I haven't even talked to Coach Gray since he invited me up for the spring game."
Moody is coming off a visit to one of his other offers, Vanderbilt this past weekend.
"I just left Vanderbilt on Sunday," he said. "It was pretty nice up there. I toured the campus and went to their spring game. It was pretty cool. Their offense is pretty fun and they want an athletic quarterback."
Meanwhile, other offers are coming in for Moody as Clemson offered on Monday and Indiana pulled the trigger last Thursday.
"They're great opportunities," he said. "I've been waiting on that Clemson offer, I really like Clemson. I like the offense they run, it's what we run. I wouldn't have to do much adjusting. The coaching staff up there is great.
"I haven't been to Indiana, but my coach tells me it's really nice up there. I want to make time to get up there in the summer."
With regards to recruiting, Moody isn't in a hurry to decide despite taking many visits already.
"I'm going to wait and see what happens," he said. "I'm going to wait until after the season, right after our last game."
Recruiting is just a part of Moody's schedule as spring practice is coming up.
"We start spring practice on May 9th and then have our spring game on May 19th or 20th," he said. "I've been working on my footwork ever since we were stopped in the playoffs. I've improved a lot. I've gotten bigger muscle wise and put on some weight."
