Defense dominates on day 2
It was one of the nicer days that we've had down here in Corvallis in recent memory. Not to say it was a beautiful day outside, but it was dry for the most part, the sun even appeared for a bit and we didn't have the constant downpour that residents in the valley have come to expect over the last couple months. Despite the dry weather, Coach Riley decided to keep his guys inside Truax this afternoon for practice.
Today was day two of practice and also the second day in a row that saw the guys going at it in shorts without their shells. NCAA rules mandate that at least three practices during the spring be completed without pads. In doing this it allows for the team to get back into a little bit of football shape before going out and hitting one another.
So far through two practices, it has been interesting watching the offense and defense going at one another as they are completely different units. On the one hand, the offense, even minus Jacquizz Rodgers, still returns 8 players with starting experience. While the defense returns only 3 starters from last year's squad. But at both practices so far, it has been all about the defense and their solid play.
Throughout the afternoon, the defense made play after play in keeping the offense in check. The offensive struggles should probably be attributed to two main factors.
