Mike White becoming a hot commodity

As Louisiana Tech continues its search for a new basketball coach after dismissing Kerry Rupp, one name has stood out from the rest, Michael White. Tech is not the only place where White's name is coming up for a vacancy however.

Fresno State head coach Steve Cleveland stepped down as head coach last week. Celeveland will take another position inside the athletic department for the remainder of his contract. Fresno is interested in White just as Tech is.

White's connections are mostly in Mississippi and Tennessee. Would White take a position 2000 miles from Jackson, Ms., where he has great ties to am AAU team there? If both Louisiana Tech and Fresno State offer the job to White, you would have to think he would take a job 2 hours from Jackson as opposed to a job 2000 miles from Jackson.

While at Ole Miss, White has done an impressive job recruiting. Here is a summary of what he has brought to Ole Miss since 2007:

Year Player Hometown Stars
2007 Trevor Gaskins
Terrance Watson
Alpharetta, GA
Flint, MI

2008 Will Bogan
DeAundre Cranston
Terrance Henry
Terrico White
Caldwell, ID
Daytona Beach, FL
Monroe, LA
Memphis, TN

2009 DeAngelo Riley Memphis, TN
2010 Dundrecous Nelson Jackson, MS
2011 Jamal Jones
Jarvis Summers
Searcy, AR
Jackson, MS

White has obviously recruited the South Central United States very well and even branches out to nearly every corner of the country to find good players.

During White's time at Ole Miss, Ole Miss has helped coach the team to three postseason berths and a pair of SEC West titles in the last five years. Before this season, Ole Miss coaching staff achieved 85 wins over 4 years.

After playing point guard at Ole Miss, he has tutored Ole Miss guards. His coaching helped Terrico White earn the 2009 SEC Freshman of the Year honor and Freshman All-American recognition. Also under his coaching were All-SEC guards Clarence Sanders, Todd Abernethy, and David Huertas. This past season Chris Warren earned All-SEC honors.

White has received national attention for his abilities as an assistant coach as he was a finalist for's 2009 Coaches Award.
