Notebook: Reed 'getting close'

Jordan Reed still doesn't have a complete grasp of the quarterback position, but after the redshirt freshman rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another in a 48-10 win over Appalachian State on Saturday, Gators coach Urban Meyer uttered something that should make those wanting to see more of Reed happy.

"He's getting close, isn't he?" Meyer said.

Reed, in a backup role to starter John Brantley, rushed for 71 yards (with a long of 20) and completed two of three passes for 14 yards and a touchdown. The TD strike was a 5-yarder to Brantley.
