Florence caps off strong senior season

Valley (AL) safety Erique Florence is arguably the top uncommitted prospect in the state of Alabama for the Class of 2011 and with his senior season finally finished, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound star can finally put his focus on the recruiting process.

"The season has been good," Florence said. "I got to play quarterback on offense this year which was a lot of fun and we had some good games and some bad games. We ended up losing to Vigor in the first round of the playoffs but it was fun to go up against Marvin Shinn. I got to play corner and cover him one-on-one a good bit."

"We talked for a few minutes after the game was over. It was the first time we had ever really had a chance to talk. I know he is committed to Alabama but I kind of got the feeling he might be open to looking at other schools. We talked about how it might be cool to play somewhere together in college."

While Florence has visited Auburn numerous times this season, he has yet to declare the Tigers or any other school as his leader. The four-star defensive back said he is keeping an open mind heading into the final few months of recruiting.

"For me right now everybody is even. I'm really not even totally set on Alabama and Auburn, but they obviously have an edge for me being the in-state schools. I'm planning on waiting it out a little and probably making my decision at the Under Armour All-American game on January 5th."

"I will be playing basketball but my main focus for the next few months is just getting ready for college. I want to work hard in the classroom and in the weight room to make sure I'm ready to hit the ground running next summer."

Florence is rated by as the nation's No. 3 safety and the nation's No. 75 overall prospect.
