Kaminsky recaps official visit

MADISON - Like so many inside Camp Randall Stadium, 2011 basketball recruit Frank Kaminsky enjoyed an exciting and exhilarating Badger win over then ranked No. 1 Ohio State.

In town to soak in the atmosphere of that game, as well as the basketball team's Fieldhouse Madness tip-off event, Kaminsky experienced one of the better sports weekends in recent Madison history.

Now, with the dust settled, BadgerBlitz.com had a chance to catch up with the 6-foot-10, 220-pound center prospect from Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois. The following is a question and answer with Kaminsky.

I guess first impressions, how did it go and what were your impressions of the 'Fieldhouse Madness' event?

Kaminsky: It went really well. My family and I were treated really nicely. The Fieldhouse Madness was pretty cool. We got to see the team play before most other people would be able to. So that was pretty cool.

What did you think of the way they played out there?

Kaminsky: I think they all, the team as a whole, shot really well and played really well. It was only after they had two practices so they're going to improve a lot.

What does it say when you see guys diving on the floor like they were doing and hustling like they were especially during only their second practice of the very early season?

Kaminsky: It just shows that it's a competitive program. They're all fighting for playing time and they all want to play. It's cool to watch something like that happen.

How about the atmosphere of the Fieldhouse? I'm sure it's a little bit different than the Kohl Center and what you're used to seeing?

Kaminsky: The people we were sitting with were talking about how they remember the games in the Fieldhouse and how loud and exciting it used to be. I mean, it was cool being a part of something like that and being in a gym they used to play in for a long time. It was nice.

I saw Michael Finley was there along with a number of other former Badgers. Did you have any interaction with him at all?

Kaminsky: I saw him and I said hi to him. I didn't really talk to him but I got to see Jason Bohannon and I talked to him a little bit.

What was your interaction like with the other recruits? I'm sure you guys had a pretty good time.

Kaminsky: We did. We all had a fun time. We pretty much stayed together as a group the whole time we were there. We hung out last night all together and the night before with the team. It was fun to go around with the team and see how their weekend life is.

Were you guys with J.P. Tokoto and some of the younger guys, too?

Kaminsky: They were on a tour bus with us throughout the day but we really weren't with them that much.

As a solid commitment did you try to persuade those guys at all if you had the chance to talk with them?

Kaminsky: No. I didn't really get a chance to talk to them.

Talking about exciting atmospheres, talk about that football game a little bit last night. That's going to go down in the history books at Wisconsin as one of the better games of all time.

Kaminsky: It was crazy. We sat right next to the fan section and everybody loves the famous 'Jump Around.' Every one was doing that. The place was shaking. It was crazy.

Did you rush the field?

Kaminsky: I tried to, but I got denied.

You didn't try to hop over anything? They just held you back?

Kaminsky: I mean, we were up high and I didn't want to wait all the way to the bottom. I couldn't go down through the concourse. When I got down they were letting people in.

Are you pretty close to starting to get things underway for your season?

Kaminsky: Yeah, we've been doing conditioning and workouts and stuff like that. I think we start practice November 8th.

What's your team looking like?

Kaminsky: We're going to be looking pretty good this year. We're returning three main starters, myself included. We're looking at a good season.

With the early November signing period right around the corner, are you planning on making it official?

Kaminsky: Yes, I am.
