Rivals100 DB has leader, others in the mix

Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Marcus Roberson is one of the most sought after prospects in the 2011 class. With a family member recently joining the staff in Lubbock as a graduate assistant, the Red Raiders have found themselves firmly in the mix.

"My uncle just went out there to be a G.A. That's made them a little more interesting for sure, but I already had some interest in them before that," Roberson said. "I think they're a great school and a great program. They're definitely in the mix. I need to learn a little more about them, though. They're on the list, but I'd say Auburn is still in the lead right now."

Roberson has spent time recently visiting with Red Raider Defensive Backs Coach Travaris Robinson, and that relationship has grown at a fast pace. "I've been talking to Coach Robinson for a little while. We have a good relationship right now. We're still just getting to know each other, but I've liked what he's had to say so far. We get along real well and have gotten comfortable with each other pretty quickly. He seems like a cool guy, and he's really easy to talk to."

With eighteen offers in hand, Roberson has his work cut out for him when it comes to official visits. With one set for this week with the University of Georgia, he plans on scheduling four more before the fall is done. Texas Tech has a chance to be one of the five. "I'm going to Georgia this Friday for an official visit. I haven't set any others yet, but I plan on taking every one that I have available to me. I've been talking with a few programs, trying to narrow down my list to five."

"Texas Tech could be a school I take a visit too, but I'm really looking at all of them right now. I'm trying to figure which ones offer enough for me to want to visit this fall. There are a lot that are really great programs. It's going to be a tough decision, no doubt."

With so many of the nation's top programs on his trail, the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder intends on using as much time as possible to make a decision. "I'm more than likely going to wait until after the season to make a decision," he said. "I want to be able to focus on my team and my season right now. I want to get all of my visits in and then see where I'm at with these schools after the season is over. I need to make sure that I know as much as I can about these schools when that time comes."

Given the number of offers Roberson has, as well as the quality of the programs in the mix, he hasn't narrowed his list down to any particular five just yet. Right now he's got a clear leader, and a host of teams on it's heels.

"There's no top five for me right now. Auburn is still in the lead. Everyone else, including Texas Tech, is right there in the mix. You never know what could happen. I could have a new front-runner at any time. Like I said, I'm still just learning a lot about these schools as we go through this. I'm just looking for the school that fits me the best."

Aside from Texas Tech, Roberson holds offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisville, LSU, Miami (FL), Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Purdue, Syracuse, Texas A&M, UCF, Wake Forest, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin.
