Bell plans to choose school in August
While Justin Bell has enjoyed the recruiting process, he's also about ready for it to be over.
The Jackson (Callaway), Miss., offensive guard has said for months he plans to commit to the school of his choice in August, and now only weeks from that self-imposed deadline, the three-star prospect still holds that same time period in mind.
Bell has held Ole Miss and Mississippi State as his co-leaders from basically he beginning - while also holding offers from Memphis and Southern Miss -- and the 6-foot-3, 320-pounder will commit to one of the Southeastern Conference Mississippi schools next month.
"It's one of those two, and I have them even right now," Bell said. "I'm not sure what's going to break the tie, but I feel like I can figure it out soon. The coaches are great at both schools, and it's going to be bad to have to tell one of them I'm not going there."
The nation's No. 35 offensive guard, according to Rivals.com, camped at Ole Miss, Miss. State and Alabama earlier this summer, and he's returning to both Oxford, Miss., and Starkville, Miss., in the next two weeks for a final look at both campuses before verbally committing.
Bell - along with four-star offensive line teammate Aaron Morris - will take a trip to Ole Miss this Saturday for the Rebels' one-day senior camp, and on July 24, the pair will see the Bulldogs' camp version.
He's hoping for something to stick out.
"It'll come down to the personalities I encounter when I add up everything," Bell said. "The depth chart a little bit, but more of how the players interact and deal with one another. I want to see that side of things, so we're looking at Ole Miss Saturday, and then I'd told State we'd be there the next weekend.
"I'm trying to find that X factor that will set one school apart - whether it's a feeling when I'm there or something I realize about one of the schools."
Bell reports an ACT score of 17 and a 3.1 GPA.
