Virginia ATH favors UConn
Bealeton (Va.) Liberty athlete Cortez Carter is sitting on seven scholarships. The 6-foot-0, 210-pounder is starting to map out his summer plans and has a few schools in mind.
"Next week on the 13th I'm looking at Wake Forest and then on the 18th and 19th, Marshall, Ohio and Kent State," said Carter of upcoming visits. "After that, we have a team camp at Central Connecticut State and that's what I have for June, but nothing is finalized yet.
"We haven't gotten that far for July yet, but I may go on more visits."
Carter claims offers from seven schools including Connecticut, JMU, Marshall, Temple, Ohio, VMI and Towson.
Connecticut continues to stand out from the crowd to the Virginia prospect.
"The Connecticut offer sticks out a lot because it's a BCS conference," he said. "I've been up there a couple times and I like the place. Connecticut is one of the top schools on my list right now.
I can't totally say that because I like tons of schools."
Carter went further about the Huskies.
"It's a lot like home up there," he said. "I like it a lot. I have a great relationship with the coaches. They are all great guys and I like how their offense plays. For an offense, they have a defensive mentality and I like that. They are recruiting me as a fullback, while almost everyone else is looking at linebacker. I'm more of a defensive guy, but Connecticut likes to use the fullback."
Carter would like to start narrowing his list and deciding relatively soon.
"I want to do it sometime before August," he said. "Originally I was hoping by the end of May, but now it's June and I think it'll definitely be over before August. I want to make my choice so I can focus on our season."
Meanwhile, plenty of other schools are watching Carter.
"Through spring visitation a lot of schools came by including Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Penn State, Duke and Liberty," he said. "They are all saying they are highly interested and want me to come to camp."
