Two more pursuing Abdur-Rahman

For a while the recruiting saga of Jamal Abdur-Rahman was pretty consistent without much room for uncertainty.

Maryland offered the 5-foot-10, 175-pound running back from Wyndmoor (Pa.) La Salle a scholarship early in the recruiting process and other schools appeared to be keeping their distance.

Now, however, other schools are starting to get involved. Two schools from very different parts of the country are taking a hard look at the junior running back and he's hoping to visit both before too long.

"I've been talking to Oregon and Purdue a lot more," Abdur-Rahman said.

"Coach (Gary) Campbell from Oregon told me they watched my film and feel as though I could play for them. They just want me to get out there. I plan on visiting them in early June to see the school and meet the coaches and everything. I'll just go from there.

"It's pretty much the same thing with Purdue. I've been talking to coach (J.B.) Gibboney and it's much of the same thing."

Abdur-Rahman reiterated that Marylan is his favorite because of the offer and the fact that they have shown the most interest thus far, but he also insisted that he's open to any school that might show interest.

"Those would be the top three schools, though," he said of those he mentioned before.

He plans on visiting Purdue around the same time he goes to Oregon. Abdur-Rahman has already been to Maryland twice and said he feels as though he knows everything he needs to about the Terps' campus.
