Redshirt freshman safety bids UGA adieu

Makri Pugh apparently saw the writing on the wall Wednesday, as the redshirt sophomore from Independence, N.C. announced his decision to transfer from the school.

Head coach Mark Richt confirmed the decision with a statement earlier this evening.

"We are appreciative of Makri's contributions during his two years at Georgia," Richt said. "We understand and support his decision to transfer and wish him great success the remainder of his career."

Pugh could not immediately be reached for comment.

The 6-foot, 196-pounder appeared to lose himself on Georgia's depth chart during the spring, as the backup free safety found himself no better than fourth on the depth chart behind Nick Williams, Jakar Hamilton and Shawn Williams.

Pugh played in nine games for the Bulldogs last year, finishing with just two tackles.
