Burton Preparing for a Wild Ride

It's not surprising that Enid, Okla. junior running back Jonathan Burton is picking up more attention as of late following an impressive 2009 campaign that saw him rack up 1,234 yards and 16 touchdowns. The running back from North Central Oklahoma says while he has heard from several schools the frequency is picking up.

"I've been receiving letters from Missouri, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State." said Burton.

And while there remains over a year from his own National Signing Day the Plainsman says he is familiar with the Oklahoma football program.

"I know all their sports pretty well. I've been to a couple of their games down there (Norman) and I've also talked to running backs coach (Cale) Gundy. He's a nice guy. He came up to the (Enid) football stadium and we talked.," recalled Burton.

Standing at 5-foot-10 and 200-pounds Burton also compares his running style to a former Sooner gridiron great.

"People like Adrian Peterson, Ladainian Tomlinson, Barry Sanders, and Walter Peyton are all people I like. I like how they run fearless through defenders and won't be stopped," said SoonerScoop.com's current No. 29 prospect.

But the class of 2011 prospect also knows there is a lot of hard work ahead of him as well.

"Right now we're just in off season. I'm working on my pass blocking and running in the open field. Really working on making that first man miss," said Burton.

But for now he's in no hurry to make any decisions.

"I'm just going to wait and see where it all takes me."
