Breakdown: UW against Michigan

It has been 11 years since a Michigan men's basketball team has come to Madison and left with a victory. Tonight, when the Wolverines take on Wisconsin inside the Kohl Center, they will try to snap that skid. The Badgers on the other hand, would like to add to their current six-game winning streak over Michigan.

Before today's tip-off, BadgerBlitz.com analyzes the potential matchups between Wisconsin and Michigan to provide a closer look at the critical Big Ten tilt.

Quick Notes:

-Tonight's game marks the 150th meeting between the two schools. Michigan holds the all-time edge with a 86-63 margin, but UW possesses a 43-32 tally in Madison.

-The Badgers have won 13 of the past 17 meetings with Michigan, including a current six-game winning streak.

-UW has never lost to Michigan at home under Bo Ryan and has won eight-straight at home overall.

-With a win, UW head coach Bo Ryan would have 99 Big Ten wins over his career.

Michigan vs. Wisconsin
Michigan Wisconsin Players The Word Advantage
Laval Lucas-Perry vs. Trevon Hughes, PG When Lucas-Perry transferred into Michigan, he was touted as a sharpshooter from downtown. So far this year, while leading the team with 35 percent shooting from downtown, he's not having that strong of an impact. Hughes on the other hands, scores from all over the court. Advantage: Wisconsin
Stu Douglass vs. Jason Bohannon, SG Douglass is not afraid to shoot the ball from downtown. The only problem is that he's not connecting on a very many of them. At this point, he has hit only 32 percent of the 91 threes he's shot. Tonight, this will be the matchup of two long distance bombers, I just feel Bohannon will fare better on his home court. Advantage: Wisconsin
Manny Harris vs. Jordan Taylor G Without Taylor coming off the bench, UW seems to be lacking production from its reserves offensively. But, they really don't have any other choice as the trio of guards do most of the scoring for the Badgers. However, tonight against Harris, Taylor may be in over his head, even though the junior guard has struggled against UW during his career. Advantage: Michigan
Zack Novak vs. Tim Jarmusz G/F There aren't many players throughout the Big Ten that hustle more than Novak does. But because he works so hard defensively, the guard struggles to find his shot on the offensive end. He very similar to Jarmusz in those regards. Advantage: Push
DeShawn Sims vs. Keaton Nankivil, C With Leuer out of the lineup, UW needs Nankivil to become more assertive on the low block and demand the ball. If he does that and plays with a fire, he can become a potent threat for Wisconsin as the season progresses. Tonight, against Sims though, Nankivil will need to be at the top of his defensive game and avoid foul trouble. Advantage: Michigan
Zack Gibson (pictured), Darius Morris, Matt Vogrich and Anthony Wright vs. Ryan Evans (pictured), Rob Wilson, Jared Berggren and Mike Bruesewitz, Bench When Beilein brings Gibson off the bench he is putting in his only true center. With Sims playing more like a three guard, Gibson brings much needed size to the lineup. Expect Ryan to counter with Berggren and Ryan Evans to make up for that size. Advantage: Wisconsin
John Beilein vs. Bo Ryan, Head coach Simply put, Beilein has never beaten a Bo Ryan coached team. Tonight may be his best chance with Leuer sidelined, but I doubt it. Not many come into the Kohl Center and leave victorious. Advantage: Wisconsin
