Breakdown: UW at Michigan State

Wisconsin's first week of Big Ten play was nothing short of impressive. With back-to-back double digit wins over Ohio State and Penn State, the Badgers hope to keep the momentum going at Michigan State.

Before today's tip-off, BadgerBlitz.com analyzes the potential matchups between Wisconsin and Michigan State to provide a closer look at an early Big Ten conference tilt.

Quick Notes:

-Tonight's game will be the 126th meeting between UW and Michigan State dating back to 1922. MSU leads the all-time series 67-58, but the Badgers have won four of the last five.

-Under Bo Ryan, Wisconsin is 11-4 against the Spartans. However, on the road in the series, UW is 2-4.

-At least one team has been ranked in 14 of the last 15 meetings between the schools.

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin
Michigan State Wisconsin Players The Word Advantage
Kalin Lucas vs. Trevon Hughes, PG Hughes played exceptional defense on Talor Battle last weekend in a meeting of two of the leagues premier point guards. Tonight, Hughes will have to match up with the reigning league player of the year in Lucas. Should Hughes protect the ball in an effective manner, his offensive game should be steady and his defensive effort could frustrate Lucas. Advantage: Wisconsin
Chris Allen vs. Jason Bohannon, SG Allen is shooting just less than 38 percent from beyond the arc, but he stil remains one of the better shooters on the MSU squad. Bohannon has proved to be an effective chasing defender and he will need to stay true to that against Allen. With Lucas' driving ability, Allen could be deadly on the perimeter. Advantage: Push
Raymar Morgan vs. Tim Jarmusz SF Jarmusz never shows a lack of effort on the defensive side of the ball, but other than Kyle Singler at Duke, Jarumsz has not seen a player as dynamic as Morgan. He is one of the team leaders for the Spartans and an effective defender. Don't anticipate many open looks for Jarmusz and expect to see plenty of Ryan Evans in this matchup. Advantage: Michigan State
Delvon Roe vs. Jon Leuer, PF When Leuer stays out of foul trouble, he is tough to defend. With his length, versatility and knack for scoring the ball, there are not many ways to defend him. If you double team him, he is more than capable of finding the open man. If you play him straight up, he will probably hit jumpers all game. The only thing that can effectively slow Leuer is an off night shooting or foul trouble. Advantage: Wisconsin
Garrick Sherman vs. Keaton Nankivil, C In talking with Nankivil this week, he plans on getting more aggressive on the glass for the Badgers. Should he rebound in a way similar to his 14-board effort at Penn State, the Badgers should be in good shape. Advantage: Wisconsin
Durrell Summers (pictured), Korie Lucious and Draymond Green vs. Jordan Taylor (pictured), Rob Wilson, Ryan Evans and Mike Bruesewitz, Bench Wisconsin has great production coming off its bench, but it is not quite as good as Michigan State's. The Spartans have two players in Summers and Green averaging more than 11 points per game and a sharp shooting Lucious on top of that. While Taylor, Evans and Wilson are good for UW, those guys from MSU might be a bit more effective offensively. Advantage: Michigan State
Tom Izzo vs. Bo Ryan, Head coach In this head to head matchup, Ryan has had the better amount of success. In short, UW's style of play gives MSU fits. It forces them into turnovers offensively and wears them out with long defensive possessions. While UW hasn't quite been as successful at MSU, they have been close and Ryan has proven his teams can win there. Advantage: Wisconsin
