UConn tragedy overshadows game prep

MORGANTOWN--Sunday's weekly teleconference did not contain the usual enthusiasm that head coach Bill Stewart creates. Stewart kept his comments contrite and poignant in memory of Connecticut junior Jasper Howard., who. died following a stabbing Sunday morning.

"I'm visibly shaken about this situation and don't have much to say today," said Stewart, who refused to answer questions regarding next week's contest.

Howard attended a university-sponsored dance at UConn's student union. The 5-foot-9, 174-pound junior was transported to a local hospital after an incident at approximately 12:30 a.m. He died soon after arriving.
