Richt announces Figgins' plans

Tight end Bruce Figgins has decided to redshirt, head coach Mark Richt announced during Monday night's weekly call in show.

Figgins, who was suspended the first six games for violating team rules, underwent shoulder surgery back in January but is back at full strength.

In 24 career games, the 6-foot-4, 260-pound Figgins has five career catches for 56 yards but is known more for his blocking prowess.

Contrary to earlier information by UGA officials, Richt indicated that if Figgins elected to redshirt he would not have to still serve his suspension in the event of a redshirt.

Figgins was suspended back in May along with defensive end Justin Houston for violating the same team rules.

He will still have two years of eligibility when he resumes play next fall.
