Bulldogs prepare for Saturday scrimmage

Mississippi State had a light three hour workout Friday afternoon in shells and shorts before their spring scrimmage on Saturday.

The Saturday scrimmage is scheduled to be held at the practice fields at 10 a.m. and will be the second such scrimmage under new head coach Dan Mullen.

Mullen is still in search of playmakers to emerge during the second spring scrimmage.

"I want to see some guys play hard and see who can make plays on both sides of the ball," Mullen said. "That's the number one when you scrimmage. You get to play live and you can tackle live like it's a game. We'll see if we can find some guys that can make plays with the ball in their hands and find some defensive players to create some things like turnovers."

Mullen stated that he would like to run between 120-130 plays on Saturday morning.

Mullen introduced several walk-on players into the mix on Friday and helped add some depth at positions that are thin due to injury such as receiver.

"There were some new walk-ons and stuff and we just threw them out there today," Mullen said. "Coach Hud (Mark Hudspeth) is getting in shape trying to chase them around just trying to get them lined up and what route to run just so we can run a play out here."

A player that had to move to wide receiver to add depth earlier this week could be on the move again. Cameron Lawrence began spring practice at quarterback last week before moving to receiver this week. Mullen said another move for the versatile true freshman could be forthcoming.
