Skinner's memorable month

The month of December was a special one for Noxubee County defensive end/ linebacker Deontae Skinner.

Not only did he anchor the Tigers defense en route to a perfect season and a MHSAA 4A State Championship but he was also selected to play in the Mississippi/ Alabama All-Star Classic.

"You could say that it was a dream come true," Skinner said of the state title. "But we've been preparing for it all year. When we won the state championship, it was a big thing for us. I'm very excited about it and very proud."

When he found out his name was selected to the Mississippi roster for the all-star game, the modest three-star prospect was overwhelmed by the honor.

"That is something that I didn't know that I could accomplish," Skinner said. "But I accomplished that and I am very proud of myself for doing that. When we got to Mobile, it was a very exciting thing being around the guys. Probably some of those teammates I will have on my team in school. I know that I am going to be playing against some of them too so it's a great thing."

While some Mississippi State commitments wavered and some even jumped ship with the resignation of Sylvester Croom, Skinner stayed the course and remained faithful to his word. So after 12 days of waiting, Skinner and the rest of the Bulldog nation celebrated to arrival of new head coach Dan Mullen.
