Is Shumpert sticking with State?
Fullback is a position that Mississippi State cannot afford to lose anymore players at.
The Bulldogs graduated two fullbacks leaving the door open for three-star commitment William Shumpert.
But will the resignation of Sylvester Croom have an affect on Shumpert's future plans?
"No sir, I'm still there," Shumpert said.
Shumpert said that he was waiting to see who Mississippi State hires. He said he hoped it would be a coach similar to Croom.
The 6-foot-0, 238-pounder was caught off guard when he received a phone call from Itawamba AHS coach Jamie Mitchell after Croom's resignation.
"My head coach called and told me Saturday morning," Shumpert said. "I was very, very shocked."
Since that time, Shumpert has spoken with MSU Director of Athletics Greg Byrne over the phone who reassured him that his scholarship is still intact.
"The athletic director contacted me," Shumpert said. "He called to tell me that (Croom's resignation) would not affect my scholarship. It was kind of cool for the athletic director to call me. He told me that my scholarship would be honored and not to worry about nothing."
Shumpert will meet with Bulldog assistant coach J.B. Grimes on Wednesday and is still set to make his official visit to Starkville in late January.
