Perkins thinks an offer is near

Ladarius Perkins has made the tour of the Magnolia State.

The athlete from Greenville (St. Joseph's), Miss., has attended a junior day at Mississippi State and one at Ole Miss. He has a clear leader.

"At this point, I like Ole Miss," Perkins said. "They're both close to offering me. Ole Miss is a good bit ahead."

Perkins, a 5-foot-9, 180-pounder, was in Oxford this past Saturday for the Rebels' third junior day of the spring.

"It went good," Perkins said. "I liked it a lot. I enjoyed it. We toured the weight room, the locker room, the indoor practice facility, the Jacuzzis and the FedEx Academic Center. It was a whole lot more than I thought they had."

Ole Miss, Perkins said, is recruiting Perkins primarily as a running back. However, the Rebels indicated Saturday that they might also look at him at a number of other positions.

"It's cool with me," Perkins said. "I can play whatever. I think my future is on the offensive side of the ball, either as a running back or a slot receiver. I also can help in the return game."

Perkins said he rushed for 1,970 yards and 29 touchdowns last season. Spring practice begins in May and St. Joseph's will play a jamboree on May 17.

"(Ole Miss assistant) Coach (Derrick) Nix said he's coming to my jamboree," Perkins said. "I think they might offer me then. I'll be close to committing to them then."
