Stratton tosses complete game shutout
STARKVILLE, Miss., - Chris Stratton issued a leadoff walk to Ole Miss' Tanner Mathis.
That would be about all the ground the Mississippi State junior right-hander was willing to give. Stratton tossed a complete game five hitter giving the Bulldogs their fifth straight win by a final score of 4-0.
"It's those special moments when it's fun to coach when you get to coach elite players doing elite things," said MSU skipper John Cohen. "I didn't watch every college baseball game that was going on tonight but it's hard to imagine there were a lot of pitching performances going on like that in the country."
It was Stratton's second straight nine-inning outing recording even strikeouts and the lone walk to leadoff the game. Stratton remains unbeaten on the year at 8-0.
"I felt great," Stratton said. "The coaches came up and asked me if I had any more gas left. I said 'Yeah, I've got plenty of gas left'. I was finishing the game no matter what."
MSU (26-16, 9-10) collected five hits as well on the evening led by Brent Brownlee's RBI double after entering the game as a defensive replacement in the seventh inning.
