Mississippi State kicks off Super Bulldog Weekend a little early as they host Tennessee tonight in the ESPNU Game of the Week at 6:30 p.m.
The Diamond Dogs are looking to snap a four-game skid and get back into the race for the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
MSU has won five straight games over the Volunteers and have a 49-25 lead all-time in the series. The Bulldogs have a 29-11 record against Tennessee in Starkville dating back to a two-game sweep in 1917.
State swept the three-game set in Knoxville last season by a combined score of 26-10. Nick Vickerson led the Diamond Dogs at the dish going 5-for-10 in the series with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs.
Mississippi State (21-16, 5-10) is hoping for a better showing coming off a three-game sweep on the road at the hands of South Carolina over the weekend and a 6-3 Governor's Cup loss to Ole Miss Tuesday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. The Bulldogs struck out 16 times in their last outing, stranded six runners and committed two errors. Freshman left fielder Tyler Fullerton led the team at the plate going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI.
