South Carolina preview

Fresh off their first Southeastern Conference series victory at home last weekend, Mississippi State is hoping for similar results on the road.

But the task will not be an easy one as the Bulldogs travel to take on the back-to-back defending national champions South Carolina. First pitch of the three-game set is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT tonight.

The seventh ranked Gamecocks hold a 32-26 edge in the series since the two schools began playing one another in 1981 and have claimed five of the last seven contests. South Carolina is 17-7 in games played in Columbia during the series.

Last season in Starkville South Carolina took two of three by a combined score of 24-11. The Diamond Dogs lone win on the weekend came on Saturday 5-3 thanks to a two-run single by Ryan Collins in the sixth inning. Luis Pollorena picked up the win in relief of Nick Routt and Caleb Reed came on to close out the contest.
