Music City Bowl preview

Mississippi State returns to postseason action for the second straight year.

This afternoon the Bulldogs take part in the American Mortgage Music City Bowl in Nashville against ACC opponent Wake Forest at 5:40 p.m.

It will be MSU's 14th bowl appearance but first in the Music City Bowl. The Bulldogs are 7-6 all-time in bowl game and have won four straight. They are looking for their first back-to-back bowl victories in consecutive years for the first time in school history.

State claimed a 52-14 win last season in the Gator Bowl over Michigan. During that contest the Bulldogs rolled up 485 yards of offense behind a MVP performance from quarterback Chris Relf. Relf totaled 311 yards of offense and four touchdowns in that game.

Today marks the first ever meeting between Mississippi State and the Demon Deacons on the gridiron.

Mississippi State reached bowl eligibility on the final game of the regular season defeating instate rival Ole Miss 31-3. The Bulldogs rushed for 247 yards in the Egg Bowl including 144 yards and two touchdowns from senior running back Vick Ballard taking possession of the Golden Egg Trophy for the third straight season and finishing 6-6 on the year.
