Mullen's Monday Press Conference
Dan Mullen's Mississippi State squad has been in three consecutive tight ballgames during their recent homestand but came up short in all three contests.
The Bulldogs hurt their own cause turning the ball over 13 times during those games and that is something that is part of the process of building a winning program and teaching players to be successful.
"Looking at the game from last week, we need to take that final step as a program which is learning how to win games," Mullen said. "Our guys give great effort and that's one thing that I ask for. They compete and they fight for four quarters. We've got to take that last step which is the hardest step which is to take that attitude and convert that into finishing off games as a team."
Mullen admits that his team has been disappointed with their results the past three games but has helped them realize just how close they are to turning the corner and being on the winning end of highly contested games.
"Guys have bought in and realize just how close they are," Mullen said. "If they continue to give great effort and fight for four quarters then they are going to have opportunities to win football games."
This week MSU will take to the road traveling to Middle Tennessee, marking the first ever visit by a Southeastern Conference school to Floyd Stadium. The Bulldogs won 31-22 during last season's contest in Starkville and lead the overall series 3-0. Mullen expects a competitive games against the 3-2 Blue Raiders, who have wins over Memphis, Maryland and North Texas already this year.
