April 9, 2012Three football players are no longer with Kentucky's program, UK spokesman Tony Neely confirmed on Monday.
Redshirt sophomore linebacker
Redshirt sophomore linebacker Justin Henderson and redshirt freshman linebacker Tim Patterson have left the team, Neely said. Sophomore defensive tackle Nermin Delic was dismissed for a violation of team rules.
Since the end of the 2011 season, the football team has lost seven players overall. Six of them have come on the defensive side of the ball.
Henderson played in two games for UK in 2011, but never recorded a tackle in his UK career. The 6-foot-3, 242-pound linebacker was listed second at the strongside linebacker position on the depth chart behind sophomore Alvin Dupree.
Patterson arrived on campus at the end of the 2010 season after grayshirting during the fall. He redshirted during the 2011 season while recovering from a shoulder injury and never saw the field for the Wildcats. He entered spring practice third on the weakside linebacker depth chart behind Malcolm McDuffen and Demarius Rancifer.
Delic played for the Wildcats as a true freshman in 2010, recording five tackles and .5 sacks as a defensive end. But he left the team in Summer 2011 while recovering from a torn groin and a blood clot in his shoulder. He rejoined the team as a walk-on in January and was listed third on the defensive tackle depth chart while he tried to earn a scholarship.
Several other players have also left the team or been dismissed since the end of last season.
Cornerback Daylen Hall was dismissed for an unspecified violation of team rules in early February. He played mostly on special teams during his true freshman season in 2011. Cornerback Dale Trimble left the team at in December after playing sparingly as a redshirt freshman.
Linebacker Ridge Wilson, who started nine games and had 47 tackles as a junior in 2011, was dismissed from the team following his arrest on felony drug trafficking charges on Feb. 26. Wilson and Patterson both attended Central High School in Louisville.
Offensive lineman James Elliot, who redshirted in 2011, also left the team at the end of the season.
