December 18, 2008Alabama recruit Tony Mitchell is the top scorer at Birmingham (Ala.) Central Park High School, but he isn't alone at the top. The slashing wing shares high-scoring honors with Will Neighbour at 21 points per game.
Neighbour, a skilled 4 man from England, has the attention of several college programs. After seeing him play in Europe, Arkansas-Little Rock offered. Syracuse and Davidson also saw him oversees and are intrigued. Alabama, Ole Miss and UAB have watched him play this year at Central Park.
Central Park assistant coach Donovan Broadnax said he thinks Neighbour is a high-major talent, but questions about how his academic work from England will transfer are holding back his recruitment.
"He is a high-major prospect who is making the adjustment to the speed of the game," Broadnax said. "Will is used to dominating everybody, and he can't just do that here. I think the high-majors have questions about how his grades will work out and whether or not he can qualify to play next season."
Central Park also has an athletic 2010 shooting guard in Van Green, who is averaging 14 points, six rebounds and six assists. Green is hearing from Alabama, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
UCLA is excited about top-30 prospect Tyler Honeycutt. With the earmarks of being a late bloomer in the mold of Austin Daye at Gonzaga, Honeycutt has a great feel for the game and some scoring punch as well. He has already gone for more than 30 points in two games this year.
A skilled power forward in the 2010 class, Cody Henegar of Marion County (Tenn.) High School has the attention of college coaches.
Henegar, who registered a triple-double with 18 points, 23 rebounds and 11 blocks on Friday night, holds an early offer from Middle Tennessee. He performed well at the Tennessee elite camp and has had a few visitors this fall, including Alabama and Richmond. He also has had calls from Virginia and Kentucky.
Sophomore Kedren Johnson of Marshall County (Tenn.) High School is a big point guard to watch. During the weekend he put up 30 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists against Giles County, Tyler Smith's old high school.
