June 23, 2008Louisville, Miss. three-star quarterback Clayton Moore appeared on Sunday to be close to pulling the trigger on a commitment, but is being tight lipped about where he may be headed.
Moore, the 20th ranked pro-style quarterback by Rivals.com for the 2009 signing class, has at least eight offers and generated some excitement a week ago when he received an offer from Ole Miss.
"I'm probably going to pull the trigger real soon," Moore said on Sunday evening. "As far as where, I'm just not going to discuss that."
Moore appears to be nearing a decision after a swing through Florida failed to net much interest.
While he was in awe at getting to work out for Urban Meyer in the Swamp, he was disappointed in the results.
"It was really something to compete on the game field at Florida in front of Coach Meyer and the Florida quarterback coach," Moore said. "I stepped up there with two other quarterbacks and three receivers and it appeared to me they were really looking at receivers and they just wanted someone there to throw the ball to them. Every time I looked at Coach Meyer, he was checking out the receivers. But, it was fun and I got a tour of the place and the facilities were nice."
After the Florida workout, Moore headed out for Tallahassee and Florida State.
"It wasn't a camp," Moore said. I just talked to Coach (Jimbo) Fisher and toured the place. He wants me in camp on July 14 and wants to see me in person before offering. He did say he likes my highlight tape."
For now, Moore said there are a couple of things weighing on his decision.
"I want to talk to the coaches again," he said. "Whenever I wake up and want to commit, that's when I'll do it."
Moore may be coy in his intentions, but it was apparent in the interview with RebelSports.net on Sunday that the Rebels are weighing heavily on his mind.
"I talked with Coach (Kent) Austin last week," he said. "I just love the coaching staff at Ole Miss. Coach (Houston) Nutt is a wonderful guy and look what Coach Austin has done in the CFL - it's unbelievable - he coached two MVPs and I think he was the MVP himself. He's just a great guy and he has coaching ability. All the coaches have the ability to bring something special to Ole Miss."
Moore raved over Florida's facilities but when asked to compare the Florida facilities, Moore responded - "Even! They don't have anything on Ole Miss. Ole Miss' facilities are great, and everything is so close together, you can be in the IPF and go to the weight room, meeting rooms, walk outside to the practice fields, or walk through the tunnel into the stadium. That's impressive."
