White has risen to No. 3, thanks to some remarkably consistent production. He has 10 double-doubles in his past 11 games, and the Hoosiers are 10-1 in that span.
White ranks in the top five in the Big Ten in four statistical categories: first in rebounding (10.9 rpg) and field-goal percentage (63.0 percent), second in blocks (1.9 bpg) and fifth in scoring (16.6 ppg).
There also was a shake-up near the top of the shooting guard rankings, as Arizona freshman Jerryd Bayless jumped to fifth from seventh. After sitting out four games with a knee injury, Bayless scored a career-high 33 points in the Wildcats' 85-71 win over Houston on Saturday. Bayless did most of his damage from the free-throw line, going 18-for-20 (90 percent). He also had nine assists, matching a career-high.
Tennessee's Tyler Smith and Pittsburgh's Sam Young moved into the top 10 of the small forward and power forward rankings, respectively. Smith made the final two baskets in the Vols' 85-83 win over previously undefeated Ole Miss last week, including a game-winning layup with 4.2 seconds left. Young carried the injury-riddled Panthers to Big East victories over USF and Seton Hall, scoring a combined 50 points in the two games.
Ole Miss freshman Chris Warren made the biggest jump of anyone, going from No. 19 to No. 14 in the point guard rankings. Warren looked superb in his first SEC game, scoring a game-high 24 points in the Rebels' narrow loss at Tennessee.
The rating of a player and coach can fluctuate each week during the season depending on how they fared the previous week, but the power rankings measure overall career performances as well as their most recent results. By the end of the season, our power rankings should provide an accurate indicator of which players and coaches were the best at their respective positions.
