May 17, 2007FREE Update - One of the most gifted wide receivers in the Country is ready to put an end to the recruiting process and make his decision. Mt. Airy (Ga.) - Habersham Central star Tavarres King has reeled in around 20 offers from programs around the country and he is ready select the one for him. Many coaches have been in to check on him and make one last pitch, but he has his mind made up and he is down to a final four. It is decision time for King and it will go down on Friday afternoon.
"I am excited about it and I am ready to make my decision," said King. "I have looked at a lot of different schools, picked up a lot of great offers and I am ready to end the recruiting process."
The first school to offer King was the University of Georgia and that offer came last July after he put on a stellar performance at the UGA camp. Offers then came in from schools like Clemson (King's father played there), Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, Auburn, and others.
Many thought it would be a Clemson - Georgia battle from the beginning because of the ties to each school. He is from the Peach State and his father is a Clemson alumni.
"Georgia, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Florida are my final four schools," King said. "I have it down to those four and I will commit to one of them on Friday."
His mind is already made up and he has only shared it with a couple of people.
"I know where I am going to go and I have known for a couple of weeks," he said. "I sat down and talked it over with my family and they gave me their blessing. Once I talked it over with them and they gave me their support, then I was ready to get it over with. I thought the end of spring practice would be a great time to do it. The only people that know are my parents and my head coach."
The world will know where this 6-foot-1, 175-pound electric receiver that runs the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds is going on Friday May 18 around 3:30 pm EST.
"I am going to be committing in the Habersham Central High School cafeteria after school. I think quite a few people are going to be there and it will be a lot of fun. I am really excited about it."
He is excited about the press conference, but he is also excited about ending the process so he can focus on having a great senior season in Mt. Airy.
"I am ready to just focus on school and finish up my junior year and prepare for my senior year," said King. "I want to start working towards my senior year and get to where we need to be team-wise for a great season."
King has had fun with the process, but he will be happy to end it all.
"It has drained me a little, but it was a lot of fun at first," he admitted. "It will feel good to get it over with - it already does really. I feel like a lot of stress and pressure has already been released and it will feel even better after Friday. The recruiting process is stressful at times, but I have enjoyed it."
King would not tip his hand as to which school he would be selecting or how he would let everyone know which one it was, but he did share a few thoughts about each school before the conversation ended.
"I like Florida a lot - they really throw it around down there. Clemson is just in my blood - it runs in the family. Georgia is just a great place and close to home. Georgia Tech has great academics and another school in state."
Will King stay in state and become a Yellow Jacket or Bulldog? Will he head South and become a Gator or will he follow in his father's footsteps and become a Tiger? We will all find out around 3:30 pm EST Friday afternoon, so stay tuned.
**State of Georgia Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons will be at the Press Conference and will be LIVE on the phone with Kelly Quinlan bringing you ALL the details step by step beginning around 3:00pm EST Friday.**
