Cole in action
William Cole, a four-star wide receiver from Cedar Hill, Texas, is leading his team through one of the best playoff runs in school history. Cole has scholarship offers from all over the country.
Despite these facts, Cole said he was "shocked" when his coach presented him with the news this week that he had been selected for the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 4.
"I mean the whole day, I was just amazed and I couldn't believe it. You're talking about being invited and nominated as an All-American. It's a great feeling. I'm going to have fun obviously, but when it's time to play, I'm going to try and win."
Cole, a 5-foot-10, 165-pounder, is a quarterback for Cedar Hill. Playing wide receiver in the all-star game will take him back to his junior year.
"It may be kind of awkward at first because I've been a QB the whole year," Cole said. "I think after a while, I'll go back to my junior season where I have to run routes and get off the line with a purpose. I'll get back into the swing of things and it's going to be fun."
Cole's team is heading to the state semifinals this weekend after beating DeSoto (Texas) High School this past week. As for recruiting, that's all taken a back seat until the playoff run ends ? hopefully with a state title.
"I haven't narrowed anything down because I'm trying to stay focused," Cole said. "I'm really looking at Texas A&M, Nebraska, Kansas, Baylor, and some others. There really aren't any huge favorites. Everybody is right up there with me."
